Rome Snowboard Design Syndicate was founded in Waterbury, Vermont in 2001 by good friends and snowboarders, Josh Reid and Paul Maravetz. The two had worked in the industry for nearly a decade before starting Rome, Reid in marketing and Maravetz in product development. The snowboarding industry had gone through a vast consolidation in the late 90s, leaving many rider owned and operated companies under the control of large corporate families run by non-snowboarders.
Reid and Maravetz built Rome on the belief that snowboarders not only care about what they ride, but also the values and philosophies of the brands they support. Rome's capacity for innovation is driven by the idea of the Snowboard Design Syndicate, a network of like-minded people, all with the same passionate connection to snowboarding. Rome relies on this network of everyday snowboarders to provide input for product development. Rome puts snowboarding back in the hands of snowboarders by listening to riders and using that knowledge to create innovative products that in the end, simply make snowboarding more fun.
